The Krishna District Congress Committee and the Government proposes to mobilize more than two lakh people for the Chief Minister’s public meeting at PWD Grounds in the city to explain how the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government worked for their welfare, said Secondary Education Minister Kolusu Parthasarthy.

At a press conference here on Sunday, he said that for next khariff season the delta farmers would receive water in the first week of June. “While 19 gates of the dam are fully functional, five more have been installed and will be functional by December 18,” the Minister said.

Latest by January next year, the project would be in a position to impound 45 TMC of water as per design, but for technical reasons in the first year only 30 TMC would be impounded, the Minister added.

Claiming credit for the completion of the project, he said that it was the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government that took interest in stabilising the Krishna delta.

Tribunal award

He said that the Government would appeal in the Supreme Court against the Brijesh Kumar Award on Krishna river waters and ensure that no injustice was done to Andhra Pradesh.

“In the meantime, the Centre must allocate another 20 TMC that Krishna delta had lost due to non-completion of the delta modernisation works,” he said.

Pulichintala model

The government proposed to put up a model of the Pulichintala project and release water at the PWD Grounds to help people congregating in Vijayawada understand how the project functioned or looked like, said Vijayawada Central MLA Malladi Vishnuvardhan.

He, along with DCC president Naraharasetti Narasimha Rao, questioned Opposition leader N. Chandrababu Naidu’s action on getting the Alamatti dam height restricted and if he was able to do anything for the farmers of the State.
