16 chain snatchers held, booty seized

The Central Crime Station (CCS) police arrested 16 chain snatchers and recovered valuables worth Rs. 8.60 lakh and four motorbikes from their possession.

Speaking to newsmen here on Sunday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) L.K.V. Ranga Rao said the 16 persons were involved in 20 offences in Krishna and Guntur districts. They were arrested while moving around suspiciously in the city.

The modus operandi of the gang was to divide themselves into teams and commit thefts and snatching gold chains from women. A few of the gang members had been arrested earlier on similar charges, he said.

Juveniles held

In another case, the police arrested four persons including three juveniles, involved in various offences in the city. Police took them into custody when they were trying to sell stolen property at Shivalayam Street, according to CCS Additional DCP Ramakoteswara Rao.
