A 12-hour non-stop veena concert was organised in the city coinciding with the death anniversary of Chitti Babu, a renowned classical musician and one of the greatest veena artistes.

Sri Subrahmanya Mahati Sangeeta Samiti orgnised the ‘Kacchapi akhanda mahotsavam’ at the Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Music and Dance College here on Wednesday.

As many as 27 veena artistes, including ‘Veena Gana Gandharva’ Pudukkottai R. Krishnamurthy, delighted the audience with their delicate and melodious touch on the instrument. The artistes played the Tyagaraja pancharatna keertanas and Muthuswami Dikshitar kritis. Mr. Krishnamurthy said music was divine. It should be learnt with utmost dedication and reverence.

Samiti secretary C.V. Rao said it was the first time they had organised a 12-hour veena concert. The Samiti plans to make it an annual feature and organise it on February 15.

S. Udayalakshmi, Padmini, KV Sastry, Sishtu Gauri Sankara Sastry, Chitta Deepak, B. Sujata, B.V.N. Dhanalakshmi and troupe, M. Rajeswari and others participated in the event.
