‘CM may not keep his word on Kapu quota’

The Telugu Desam government could not just fulfil the assurance it gave to the Kapus and may backtrack on it because it would result in unrest among other sections like farmers, DWCRA groups and unemployed youth, according to Leader of the Opposition in the A.P. Legislative Council C. Ramachandraiah.

At a press conference at the Andhra Ratna Bhavan here on Thursday, Mr. Ramachandraiah blamed Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for the Kapu crisis. Rajamahendravaram had been put virtually under siege with hundreds of police guarding the government hospital where fasting Kapu Reservation Movement leader Mudragada Padmanabham was kept, he said. He said political parties were taking people for a ride by making hundreds of promises at the time of elections and then failing to fulfil them after being electe d.

Assurances only on paper

“I am going to write to the President of India to make an enactment that will blacklist the parties which came to power making hundreds of assurances and then not fulfilling them after getting elected.”

The MLC said even the hotel he checked into was under guard. This kind of autocracy would not work, he said.

Mr. Ramachandraiah wondered why the Chief Minister was hesitating to request the CBI to conduct an inquiry into the arson and violence at Tuni after Kapu Garjana.
