Facelift: Work on beautification of the bird sanctuary at Vaduvur is nearing completion.

The birds sanctuary in Vadavur is gearing to provide entertainment to visitors and additional facilities to bird-watchers.

The Forest Department is developing the sanctuary with additional infrastructure under the Tamil Nadu Biodiversity and Greening Project. An interpretation centre was constructed during the first phase.

Now, during the second phase, work on construction of a watchtower is underway.

“A large area of the tank at Vaduvur has been a haven for different kinds of birds including migratory ones. Due to severe drought conditions, the sanctuary is almost deserted. But we are confident that the North East monsoon will be normal this year,” said a Forest official.

The new building will also accommodate a training centre for forest officials.
