As part of measures to prevent flooding on roads and streets in Cantonment during rains, the Tiruchi City Corporation has begun construction of culvert on Williams Road.

The work is taken up at a cost of ₹9 lakh. Construction of culvert connecting two drains, levelling and desilting of drains are part of the project.

A senior official of the Corporation told The Hindu that there had been instances of flooding on Williams Road and a few other adjacent roads in the past during rainy days. It was found that uneven drains were disrupting free flow of water thereby causing flooding on the roads. This project would address the issue, he said.

He said that the culvert would be constructed about 20 feet wide. Besides clearing silt, the drains would be provided with proper gradient. The construction would be completed within four weeks.
