Women entrepreneurs honoured for promoting small enterprises

A group of women entrepreneurs who had achieved success by promoting small and medium industries throughout the State were honoured at the valediction of the two-day seminar on “entrepreneurial opportunities for women and youth” organised jointly by the Department of Women’s Studies of Bharathidasan University and Women Entrepreneurs Association of Tamil Nadu here on Saturday.

Each of them was honoured with a citation and certificate on the occasion in recognition of their achievement.

Honouring the entrepreneurs, V.M. Muthukumar, vice-chancellor of the university, promised all possible assistance for the promotion of entrepreneurship among women. He appealed to the organisers to adopt villages and enhance the skill of rural women towards setting up micro, small, and medium enterprises.

R. Revathy, District Revenue Officer (Special), Tamil Nadu Road Sector Project, appealed to the organisers to explore the possibility of generating employment opportunities for the less privileged women, particularly those afflicted with AIDS, young widows, and transgenders.

Referring to prompt recovery rate among women borrowers, she called upon bank officials to sanction loans to a large number of women. She appealed to women entrepreneurs to identify the areas of future industrial growth such as manufacturing of solar panels and spares.

Rani Muralitharan, State president of Women Entrepreneurs Association of Tamil Nadu, spoke on the importance of selecting the right entrepreneurship suited to their interest and capabilities. She promised all assistance from WEAT in imparting training and necessary skills.

B. Balachandran, Chief Manager, Punjab National Bank, which had sanctioned Rs. 25 lakh to a group of women entrepreneurs on the occasion, said that women borrowers were prompt in repayment of loans. T. Raju Rebero, president of Tiruchi District Tiny and Small Industries Association and Kannagi Chandrasekaran, a motivator for women entrepreneurship programme, spoke. N. Manimekalai, Director of Centre of Women’s Studies, spoke on the objective of the seminar.

Later, Mr. Muthukumar released the souvenir brought out on the occasion.
