The city police foiled an attempt by a woman to observe fast along with her son in front of the Srirangam MLA office here on Tuesday over reported denial of educational loan for her son’s studies. Selin Mary, a widow and a resident of Tiruvanaikoil, came with her son to the Srirangam MLA office in the morning to go on fast when the police thwarted their bid and took them to All Women Police Station nearby.

The woman had earlier petitioned the district administration seeking educational loan which was not provided by the bank as she did not have proper records in her possession, police said. The woman’s son is pursuing diploma in mechanical engineering in a private polytechnic on the outskirts.

Revenue and police officials spoke to the woman and assured necessary help following which she left the spot.
