Ahead of the water release into Cauvery from Mettur dam, Thaneer, an organisation espousing environmental upkeep, carried out cleaning of the Amma Mandap bathing ghat area on Saturday evening.

About 50 students of Jennys Academy of Hotel Management, Tiruchi, removed discarded clothes and plastic waste from the embankment. The waste was later taken away by a corporation vehicle.

City Corporation Commissioner N. Ravichandran who inaugurated the drive said the initiative was essentially an awareness exercise to keep the river body clean.

President of Thaneer M. Sekaran and Secretary K. Neelamegam also took part.
