Village sanitary workers stage protest in Tiruchi

A section of village panchayat tank operators and sanitary workers staged a demonstration here on Monday in support of their charter of demands.

They urged the State government to provide Rs.200 hike in the salary of overhead tank operators as announced, by issuing an order and grant dearness allowance arrears to them immediately.

The demonstrators also demanded that the sanitary workers working in panchayats should be regularised. They further demanded that the additional tank operators appointed after the year 2000 should be regularised and provided with special time scale of pay.

Implementation of provident fund, pension and insurance schemes and supply of cycle, uniform and torch lights for overhead tank operators were among their other demands.

The demonstration held near the collectorate was led by the Tiruchi District Local Administration Department Employees Association district president A.S. Palanivel.
