Veterinary hospital on the cards at Themangalam village

A new veterinary hospital is proposed to be set up at Themangalam village here, according to an announcement made at the monthly mass contact meeting.

Speaking on economic opportunities for women, Collector T.Munusamy stated that the free livestock scheme was a boon for women to engage in cooperative livestock farming and seek remunerative income. Special skill-based and vocational training for women are also being conducted to enable them to engage in productive, income-generating activities. Banks have been guided to facilitate institutional credit facilities as start-capital for new ventures by women. Women were urged not to let out credit on interest and instead use it for productive activities.

Educated unemployed youth were also urged to take to skill training for self-employment.

Lauding the panchayat for bagging the Nirmal Gram Puraskar for sanitation, Mr.Munusamy outlined that there were schemes, seed and fertilizer subsidies and technical expertise available and access to agricultural implements has also been enhanced, to ensure good productivity. It was for farmers to avail these opportunities and take to productive cropping practices, the Collector said.

Scores of welfare schemes, including the monthly assistance of Rs.1,000 was made available as pension under the Widows Pension Scheme and the Old Age Pension Scheme. Eligible beneficiaries should seek these benefits with appropriate documents to support their claims.

Disbursements were made under the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension, and Widows Pension Old Age Pension Scheme. Orders were issued for free pattas for five beneficiaries; and new family cards for four beneficiaries. Sewing machines worth Rs.2,912 each were distributed to beneficiaries under the Adi Dravidar Welfare Scheme.

Under the departments of Agriculture and Horticulture, vegetable seeds were distributed to farmers at a subsidy and tarpaulins, seeds and hand-sprayers were disbursed to selected beneficiaries.

Those petitions received shall be addressed to and necessary action will be taken within a month. Of the 195 petitions received, 47 were accepted, and 148 rejected. Over 60 fresh petitions were received additionally , an administration release said.
