Brisk polling was reported in most parts of the central region with almost all the nine districts here recording more than 50% polling till 3 p.m.
Karur district recorded the highest overall polling percentage of 63.56% as of 3 p.m. The polling percentage in the town panchayats in the district was 76.69% and in municipalities it was 58.92%. The Karur Corporation reported 60.28% polling percentage.
Ariyalur district reported the second-highest average polling percentage of 62.34% in the region. While 57.86% of voters had cast their votes in Ariyalur Municipality, more than 70% of voters in Udayarpalayam and Vardharajanpettai town panchayats had exercised their franchise by 3 p.m.
Although polling began on a dull note in Tiruchi, it gathered momentum after the first one hour. The district recorded an average polling percentage of 57%. The polling percentage among the 14 town panchayats in the district was 59%. The five municipalities recorded 56% polling and the Tiruchi Corporation 57%.
Tiruvarur district recorded an average polling of 56.20%. Thirthuraipoondi Municipality recorded the highest polling percentage of 68.74% among the four municipalities in the district.
The overall polling percentage in the two municipalities and four town panchayats in Nagapattinam district was 54.15% till 3 p.m. The polling percentage in Vedarnyam municipality was 60.78 and in Nagapattinam Municipality it was 48.68%.
In Mayiladuthurai district 51.97%, of the electorate cast their votes. The average polling percentage in town panchayat wards were 57.66% and in municipal limits it was 49.36%.
Pudukottai district registered 57.37% average polling. While 51.92% polling was reported in Pudukottai Municipality, 55.98% of eligible voters exercised their franchise in the Aranthangi Municipality in the district till 3 p.m.
In Perambalur, 54.97% of eligible voters in Perambalur Municipality and four town panchayats had cast their votes by 3 p.m.
