Farmer producer companies begin to market products under common brand name

In a significant move, the Tamil Nadu Consortium of Farmers Producer Companies, an umbrella organisation of 15 farmer producer companies in the State, has begun to market their products under the brand name of Unnadham Uzhavar Angadi.

They had recently entered into a memorandum of understanding to market their produce under a common brand name. Each farmer producer company specialises in a particular product. The Thottiyam based Banana Farmer Producer Company is one among the 15 companies that have joined together for a common agenda. All 15 companies have already registered their entities under the Companies Act.

Erode Precision Farmers Company, which is acting as the resource institution, facilitates the member companies on marketing, branding, promotion and value addition of products.

The Banana Farmers Producer Company, which has taken a lead in marketing value added banana products, has set up an Unnadham Uzhavar Angadi at Thennur Uzhavar Sandhai, which attracts more than 5,000 customers a day. The angadi markets many products including cereal, millets, oils and others.

G. Ajeethan, treasurer, Tamil Nadu Consortium of Farmer Producers Company, told The Hindu that about 200 products had been brought under the reciprocal agreement.

The common brand name would open up market for the products of various farmer producer companies in the State.

Depending upon the requirements of customers, the companies would interchange products.

Within a short span of time, the companies had sold ₹50 lakh worth of products in the State.

The products, which were available at Thennur Uzhavar Sandhai in Tiruchi, had received good response among customers.

“We give priority to market organic products that have good demand among the customers. We market pure and high quality products,” Mr. Ajeethan says.

He said chances were bright for starting more Unnadham Uzhavar Angadi in farmers’ markets and commercial areas.

Depending upon the customer interest, more products would be channelized and marketed.

He added that the resource institution had planned to impart training to the members of farmer producer companies on resource mobilisation, capital mobilisation, company affairs, product improvement, marketing techniques, brand enhancement and others.
