Two arrested for building collapse

An engineer and a mason have been arrested in connection with the collapse of a portico under construction in a private matriculation school at Vengalam in Perambalur district recently which claimed the lives of three labourers.

While engineer Dhinakaran and mason Seran have been arrested, the school correspondent A. Thangavel, named as the main accused, is yet to be arrested.

Two women labourers and an electrician died on the spot when the portico collapsed when a group of workers took refuge under it due to rain on Sunday night.

Three other workers including two women who were caught under the debris were rescued by fire fighters. The Arumbavur police booked a case on a complaint from the Vengalam Village Administrative Officer Jayaraman.
