Three youth of Pathalapettai village who apprehended two chain snatchers braving the armed assault of the culprits were felicitated by R.Lalitha Lakshmi, Superintendent of Police, Tiruchi rural, here on Saturday.
The three youth - K.Baskar (40), K.Santhanakumar (24) and K.Karunanidhi (35) - had intercepted and nabbed the motorcycle-borne chain snatchers, while they were fleeing after snatching a 5.5-sovereign gold chain of M.Amirthavalli, a school teacher of Ilangadu village on August 21. The incident took place when Ms.Amirthavalli along with a fellow teacher was riding a moped along the Ilangadu-Kachamangalam road within Thogur police station limits in Thanjavur district.
The chain snatchers - S.Marimuthu (24) of Palakkarai and Raja (27) of Kurinjipadi - had accosted the women, pushed them down and snatched the chain from Amirthavalli. Both of them were overpowered by the three youth despite the duo attacking them with sickles. Baskar sustained serious cut injuries in his arm while Santhanakumar and Karunanidhi suffered simple injuries. All the three were treated at Tiruchi Annal Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in the city.
On instructions from Alexander Mohan, Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, Ms.Lalitha Lakshmi presented cash rewards to them .
