The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Kumbakonam, on Thursday launched three air-conditioned buses to ply on Tiruchi-Coimbatore-Tiruchi and Tiruchi-Palani-Tiruchi routes.
Two buses would be operated to Coimbatore via Karur and the third would ply to Palani via Dingidul. The bus services were formally launched by Vellamandi N. Natarajan, Minister for Tourism, and S.Valarmathi, Minister for Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare, in the presence of S. Sivarasu, Collector, Raj Mohan, General Manager, TNSTC, and other officials.
The fare to Coimbatore from Tiruchi would be ₹225. Passengers would have to pay ₹190 up to Palladam, ₹155 to Kangeyam, ₹90 to Karur and ₹45 to Kulithalai. The fare to Palani from Tiruchi would be ₹175, ₹145 to Ottanchathiram, ₹115 to Dindigul and ₹45 to Manapparai.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Natarajan cautioned private buses against fleecing passengers during the festival season. “Stern action will be taken if passengers are charged more than the fares fixed by government. The government has already said the buses will be impounded,” he said.
