The Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Paper Limited (TNPL) plans to meet its water requirement for its Mondipatti plant near Manaparai in Tiruchi district from a water source on the bank of the Cauvery near Perugamani.

The two-lakh tonne capacity Multilayer Double Coated Board unit, which is being constructed, is an additional unit of TNPL, which has its mother unit at Kagithapuram in Karur district.

The Mondipatti plant is expected to manufacture double coated white backboard, folding box boards and liquid packaging boards.

To meet its water requirements including drinking water, it had decided to set up a pumping station at Perugamani and from there water would be carried through a pipeline. The task had been given to the Tamil Nadu Water and Drainage Board, informed sources told The Hindu . It has begun the process of laying pipeline for about 32 km from Perugamani to Mondipatti. It goes along various villages. Pipes have so far been laid for about 10 km. A leading company that had taken the contract has engaged a team of skilled workers from north India for executing the work. It is expected that it would be completed within two months.

Besides taking care of water requirement of the plant, the project is expected to supply drinking water to 11 revenue villages around Mondipatti.
