A day after a conversation between Tashildar of Thiruverumbur M. Annadurai and an alleged sand smuggler went viral on social media, Tiruchi Collector S. Sivarasu on Sunday transferred the official with immediate effect and put him on waiting list.

In the conversation lasting a minute, Mr. Annadurai demanded ₹50,000 from the sand smuggler for surreptitiously permitting the latter to source sand illegally from the Cauvery river bed in two lorries.

When the sand smuggler sought the tahsildar’s consent for two lorries to transport sand, Mr. Annadurai demanded payment of ₹50,000 by evening. The sand smuggler agreed.

Mr. Sivarasu, who came to know of the alleged conversation, transferred Mr. Annadurai and posted M. Rafeek Ahamed, Tashildar of Marungapuri, to Thiruverumbur. No posting has been given to Mr. Annadurai

Mr. Sivarasu told The Hindu that there were a few complaints against Mr. Annadurai. The Revenue Divisional Officer, Tiruchi, had been asked to hold an inquiry into the latest complaint. Further action would be taken based on the RDO’s report, the Collector said.
