Honours from Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam were brought to Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy temple on the occasion of ‘Kaisika ekadasi’ on Friday.
This is an important ritual falling in the Tamil month of Karthigai at Srirangam and precedes the Vaikunta Ekadasi which falls in Margazhi.
Holy clothes for Sri Ranganathar, Sri Ranganayaki, and Sri Ramanujacharya, fruits, and a couple of temple umbrellas were brought to Srirangam.
Officials of both temples took the holy gift in a procession and went around the Uthira Street before reaching the temple.
K. Bapiraju, chairman of the TTD, handed over the gift to Venu Srinivasan, chairman of Board of Trustees of Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy temple.
S. Kalyani, Joint Commissioner of Srirangam was present.
The despatch of temple honour from Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam to Srirangam has been an annual feature, marking the historical link between these two temples.
Namperumal, the processional idol of Srirangam temple, was taken by devotees and was in safe custody there for over four decades during the invasion.
