Tiruchi voter strength up by over 9,000

There has been a marginal increase of about 9,000 voters in Tiruchi district since March as per the draft electoral rolls released here on Monday.

The draft electoral rolls covers inclusions, deletions and corrections made from March 26 and Monday. While 12,913 additions have been made, 3,799 names have been deleted.

As the draft electoral rolls, the total electorate in the district stood at 17,88,061 including 8,96,488 women, 8,91,503 men and 70 transgenders.

The Srirangam Assembly constituency has the highest number of voters at 2,21,193, including 1,10,757 women, 1,10,426 men and 10 transgenders.

The following are the voters strength in the other eight constituencies in the district: Manapparai – 2,16,544 comprising 1,07,870 women and 1,08,674 men; Tiruchi West – 2,08,427 comprising 1,05,497 women, 1,02,924 men and six transgenders; Tiruchi East – 2,03,337 comprising 1,02,193 women, 1,01,121 men and 23 transgenders; Tiruverumbur – 2,10,777 comprising 1,04,428 women, 1,06,325 men and 24 transgenders; Lalgudi – 1,73,426 comprising 87,618 women, 85,803 men and five transgenders; Mannachanallur – 1,86,632 comprising 93,549 women, 93,081 men and two transgenders; Musiri – 1,84,771 comprising 92,335 women and 92,436 men; and Thuraiyur (SC) – 1,82,954 comprising 92,241 women and 90,713 men.

The draft rolls was released by Collector Jayashree Muralidharan in the city on Monday in the presence of representatives of various political parties. Details of voters including the parts and divisions of the rolls would be verified at the Grama Sabha, village panchayat and residents' welfare associations meetings to be held on October 29 and November 1.

A summary revision exercise has been taken up now as per the instructions of the Election Commission of India with January 1,2012 as the qualifying date. Applications for additions, deletions, corrections and change of address can be submitted at the Revenue Divisional Offices, Corporation main and assistant commissioners' offices and Taluk offices.

The applications forms can also had from these offices, Ms.Muralidharan said.
