Tight security in place for Sub-Inspector examination

Police have made arrangements at all the 16 centres across the central zone ahead of the written examination for the recruitment of Police Sub Inspectors to be conducted by the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board (TNUSRB).

The two-day written examination begins on Saturday with the first day meant for the general candidates and on Sunday for the departmental candidates. Over 20,000 general candidates will sit for the examination. Special security schemes have been drawn up in eight districts – Tiruchi, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Karur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam – as per the norms.

Tiruchi has the highest number of 5,937 candidates followed by Thanjavur (4,282), Pudukottai (2,268), and Nagapattinam (2,078).

Among the 16 examination centres — four are in Tiruchi, five in Thanjavur, two in Tiruvarur, and one each in Pudukottai, Ariyalur, Karur, and Nagapattinam districts. The examination is to be conducted to fill over 900 posts of SI.

A sub-committee has been constituted in every district headed by the respective Superintendents of Police and comprising three senior police officers as members for the examination. Senior IPS officers in the rank of Inspector-General of Police and Deputy Inspector-General of Police have been nominated for every district to act as “super check officers” to monitor the examinations.

Applicants would be subjected to thorough checks before being allowed into the examination venues. Door frame metal detectors would be installed at the entrance to check the candidates. Cell phone, calculator, bag, and other electronic items would not be allowed inside the venue. In Tiruchi district alone, over 350 police personnel would be deployed for security at the examination venue where a police assistance centre would be created to help the applicants. Special buses would be operated to the venue. On May 24 (Sunday), 1,739 departmental candidates would sit for the examination in the eight districts.
