Police sources said A. Vishwanathan (50) and his son V. Nehru (22) were riding a motorcycle to Pavattakudi village from Mayiladuthurai in Nagapattinam district when a branch of a roadside tree crashed on them at Kazhani Vaasal because of heavy rains on Monday evening.

The two lost balance and fell from the vehicle and sustained injuries. Vishwanathan died on the way to the hospital while Nehru is under treatment at the Mayiladuthurai Government Hospital.

A 70-year-old woman T. Jagadambal died in wall collapse on Sunday night in Ariyalur district. The woman was sleeping in her tiled house at Nandhiyankudi village near Sendurai when the incident occurred.

In Tiruchi district, a 55-year-old woman was electrocuted at Poongudi village near Tiruchi on Monday evening. M.
