Thirunavakkarasar plans to have office in Tiruchi soon

Overwhelmed by the response of the electorate, newly elected MP of Tiruchi Parliamentary constituency and former Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Su Thirunavakkarasar said he plans to start his office soon in the city for public interface.

“For the time being, I will be utilising my party offices, and, if need be, the offices of DMK, in Tiruchi and Pudukottai districts to meet the public. While I will be interacting with the public Assembly constituency-wise elsewhere in the constituency, having an office in Tiruchi city encompassing a cluster of Assembly segments will be convenient for the public,” Mr. Thirunavakkarasar told media persons on Thursday night after receiving the certificate of election.

Mr. Thirunavakkarasar said the 6,21,265 votes polled in his favour by over 60 % of the electorate signified their faith in his capability, and that he would strive to address the requirements in the constituency. The mandate was collectively for the DMK, the Congress and all other alliance partners, he said.

Mr. Thirunavakkarasar sounded confident that he would be able to prevail upon the BJP government at the centre to fulfil the aspirations of the people in the constituency.

“I am aware of the priorities for the constituency, articulated during the campaign. I do not see my belonging to Congress party as a disadvantage in securing benefits for the constituency from the BJP government at the Centre,” Mr. Thirunavakkarasar said, replying to a query.

The premise that MPs could fulfil aspirations of the people only if they belonged to the ruling party was flawed, he pointed out.
