In the light of the Delhi gang-rape and recent incidents of continuing sexual violence that have sparked unprecedented anger and debate across the country, The Hindu will host a public forum to discuss crimes against women.

The discussion will deliberate on the larger questions involved: women’s rights, patriarchy and the law. Our panellists comprise Shailesh Kumar Yadav, City police commissioner; advocate U.Nirmala Rani of All India Democratic Women’s Association; N.Manimekalai, professor, Department of Women's Studies, Bharathidasan University; Sharifa Khanam, founder, STEPS women development organisation, Pudukottai; and students. An interactive session with the audience will follow the discussion.

The event will be held at Cauvery College for Women at 10.00 a.m. on Wednesday. All are welcome.
