A railway line between Thanjavur and Pattukottai via Orathanadu would soon become a reality.

The Railway Board has issued orders recently for conducting a survey of the 47-km distance between Thanjavur and Pattukottai via Orathanadu for laying the railway line and has already allotted Rs.7 lakh for launching the preliminary works, thanks to the initiative taken by T.R.Baalu, MP, and Chairman of the Parliament Standing Committee on Railways.

Various organisations, including Pattukottai Environment Protection Committee, Indian Red Cross, Orathanadu, voluntary organisations, and advocates associations of Orathanadu and Pattukottai made representations to Mr. Baalu and to Railway Ministry demanding a railway line between Thanjavur and Pattukottai via Orathanadu.

Mr. Baalu discussed with local body representatives, traders and people of all sections, and sent a communication to Railway Board about the necessity to lay the line.

Mr. Baalu in his letter said that 21,000 students travel between Thanjavur and Pattukottai every day.
