The Thanjavur division of the Life Insurance Corporation Ltd has topped the list in the south zone in collecting the first premium and second on selling policies, said P. Thiagarajan, Senior Divisional Manager, LIC, here on Friday. Briefing presspersons in connection with the insurance week celebration being held from September 1 to September 7, Thiagarajan said the target for this year is six lakh policies and Rs 700 crore as first premium in the division. Till August 15, 1,00,854 policies have been collected in the division and it has earned a first premium of Rs 84.38 crore. The division settled 1,55,949 matured policies to the tune of Rs. 314.73 crore last year. It also settled 7,141 death claims to the tune of Rs. 55.23 crore.
Various programmes including health check-up for policy holders, awareness camps, rallies to highlight the importance of life insurance, competitions for school students and cultural programmes would be held during the insurance week.
