It was a splash of colours as young minds gave shape to their imagination at The Hindu Young World Painting Competition 2017-18 in the city on Sunday.

About 270 students selected for finals in the juniors and seniors categories, after the preliminary round of the contest, assembled with enthusiasm at the Cauvery College for Women to exhibit their creative talents.

Students of classes IV to VI competed in the Juniors category, while students of classes VII to IX formed the Seniors group. Participants were required to paint on any one of the topic given on the spot. The topics for Juniors were: ‘Stop child labour,’ ‘Shopping with family’ and ‘My favourite fairytale.’ Seniors were asked to choose from ‘Fighting terrorism,’ ‘Sunken treasure’ or ‘Star gazing.’

In the Juniors category, B.Harshitha, Montfort School, bagged the first prize, and the second prize went to Akshitha Chelladurai, BVM Global. N.Aishwarya of Blossom Public School was adjudged third.

T.Harsith, BVM Global, Senthamizh Selvan, Cauvery Public School, P.Nidhisha, RSK Higher Secondary School, S.I.Subiksha, Bharani Park Matric Higher Secondary School, R.Srinithi, St.James Matric Higher Secondary School, S.Sugesh, BHEL Matric Higher Secondary School, and S.Manoj Kumar, St.James Matric Higher Secondary School, were given consolation prizes. Among the Seniors, M.A.Mathumitha of Montfort School, walked away with the first prize while S.Ashwin Shiyam and M.Ramanan, both from SRV Matric Higher Secondary School, bagged the second and third prizes, respectively.

G.Keerthana, St.Little Flower Matric Higher Secondary School, K.Pragathi, RSK Junior School, J.Nithisree, SRV Matric Higher Secondary School, B.Rakshanaa, Montfort School, T.Anjana, Kamala Niketan Montessori School, M.Mizbaah, St.James Matric Higher Secondary School, and J.Madhubala, Kendriya Vidyalaya-1, were the consolation prize winners in the category.

N.Ravichandran, Commissioner-cum-Special Officer, Tiruchi Corporation, presented certificates and trophies to the winners in the presence of Pitabas Sarangi, Deputy General Manager-Retail, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Tiruchi Region. The contest was presented by Thyrocare. Cauvery College for Women was the venue partner.
