Local retailers have complained that they are yet to be supplied with volume II textbooks of minority languages for Class XI under the State Board.

Teachers of French, Urdu and Arabic are in a quandary since they will have to follow the textbooks printed as per the new syllabi. They have complained that the textbooks for French are not available even in the sales emporium of Tamil Nadu Text Book and Educational Services Corporation at DPI Campus in Chennai.

According to teachers handling higher secondary subjects, the process of supply of textbooks for core subjects is still in progress. While the textbooks for English and Tamil have been distributed, supply of textbooks for Chemistry and Mathematics has not been uniform in the district, they said.

Also, students in the vocational group are yet to be provided with history textbooks, it is learnt. An official says the books for some of the minority languages have not yet been supplied to retailers.

Citing the usual practice, teachers apprehend that the supply of the books can be expected only after completion of distribution of books for all core subjects to the schools.

Since the requirement of textbooks for minority languages is much lesser, they are printed last, a teacher said, pointing out that the supply of the textbooks with new syllabi contents towards the end of the academic year will serve no purpose.
