Temple icon safe vault opened

May 09, 2017 12:47 am | Updated 12:48 am IST - KUMBAKONAM:

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami declared open a temple icon safe vault at Thiruvalanchuzhi through video conferencing from Chennai on Monday.

The icon safe vault has been established over an area of 2,573 square feet at the Sri Kabartheeswarar temple complex at Thiruvalanchuzhi, and has been constructed at a cost of ₹95 lakh.

Around eight years ago, an icon safe vault was constructed at Sri Nageswaran temple complex in Kumbakonam for safe keeping precious antique icons of various deities of temples under the control of the Mayiladuthurai Zone of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department. There numerous temple icons and those icons recovered from idol lifters and involved in cases were kept. Space constraint forced the officials to go in for an additional icon safe vault at Thiruvalanchuzhi.

Officials distributed sweets and burst crackers at the venue after the Chief Minister declared open the new facility from Chennai. Assistant Commissioner, HR & CE, Mariappan and others were present at the venue.
