Teacher held under POCSO Act

A government school teacher has been arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act after he allegedly played obscene videos on his mobile phone and showed it to girl students.

Sarangapani of Sankarankovil, working as a teacher in the Government Higher Secondary School, Thiruvonam in Thanjavur district had allegedly played obscene videos on his mobile and showed it to girl students three months ago. Subsequently, he was transferred to the Government school at Ilangadu near Thirukattupalli.

However, he managed to get a transfer back to Thiruvonam school recently. On hearing this, large number of parents opposed his transfer and wanted him to be shifted out of the school.

In the meantime, a complaint was preferred against Sarangapani by a girl student stating that he had forced her to watch the obscene videos during school hours. The complaint was forwarded to Pattukottai All Women Police who conducted an inquiry and arrested Sarangapani on Thursday under POCSO Act.

While the All Women Police were pursuing the complaint from the girl student, the Assistant Headmaster of the Thiruvonam school, Thangadurai lodged a complaint with the Thiruvonam police stating that he received life threats from Sarangapani since he questioned his activities. The Thiruvonam police have registered a case and are investigating.
