The Tiruchi Corporation Commissioner K.Veera Raghava Rao has instructed officials to intensify the tax collection drive in the city with a special focus on recovering arrears.
Speaking at a meeting to review tax collection, Mr.Rao said bill collectors and Corporation revenue officers should ensure cent per cent collection of the current tax demands and also the arrears in their respective jurisdiction. He wanted the officers to conduct special drives for collection of dues under all tax heads before August 31.
Follow up required
Bill collectors should not stop with issuing demand notices, but follow up on them by sending reminders. Mr.Rao instructed the officers to approach persons with heavy arrears individually to persuade them to pay up their dues. If the arrears amount was very high, legal action should be initiated.
Special attention should also be paid to collect tax dues from commercial establishments. Similarly, collection of current water charge dues and arrears should also be done systematically. Coordinated action should be taken in each zone to reduce arrears, he said.
Mr.Rao appealed to the residents of the city to pay up their tax dues and avoid legal action.
The meeting was attended by assistant commissioners V.Natarajan (Accounts), Chandra (Revenue), Subbu (Srirangam), Rajamma (Ariyamangalam), Baskar (K.Abishekapuram) and Dhanapalan (Golden Rock) and assistant revenue officers and bill collectors attended the meeting.
