A breathtaking Bharathanatyam performance by a troupe of city-based Sri Priyalaya Arts Academy set the tone for excellence. Acknowledging the appreciation of the student crowd, the academy's artistic director, Supriya Ravikumar, told them that taking part in a quality competition was an achievement in itself.
The eight finalists out of 17 participating teams were Velammal Vidyalaya, Karur; Sacred Heart School, Pudukottai; Periyar Centenary Memorial Higher Secondary School, Tiruchi; Bharathi Vidhyalaya Matriculation School, Namakkal; Sri Jayendra Matric Higher Secondary School, Tiruchi; Brindavan Vidhyalaya, Thiruvanaikovil; and Velammal Matric School, Karur.
A total of 1,580 students registered their nominations through 81 schools in 11 districts: Tiruchi, Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Karur, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Namakkal, Salem, Erode, and Karaikal.
On October 14 and 15, they will be competing in group dance competitions – Indian classical and Indian popular, film/ western, elocution, debate, garland making, flower arrangement, ceramic tile painting, collage/ poster designing and cartooning.
At the outset, Rajam Krishnan, patron, BHEL Community Centre Ladies Club joined the General Manager – Human Resource P. Nainar along with a teacher and a student, to light the traditional lamp in the presence of the Regional General Manager, The Hindu , Tiruchi, R. Srinivasan. In his address, Mr. Nainar said BHEL was privileged to sponsor the programme for the third consecutive year. The Hindu , he said, serves as a platform for nurturing literary and artistic talents of the student community through The Young World supplement. BHEL, Tiruchi Complex, is the title sponsor for the event. SASTRA University is the Principal Sponsor.
