Stadium work nearing completion at Karaikal.

Work on the construction of an outdoor stadium sanctioned by Education Department at an estimate of Rs. 8 crore has been apace. The stadium will have the latest infrastructure to encourage the sports. It will also be quite spacious for hosting various national-level outdoor sports events, indicating the state-of-the-art infrastructure at a sprawling ground at a stone’s throw distance from the seashore.

According to sources, the out-door stadium is being constructed at the open grounds around the in-door stadium. The outdoor stadium will be so spacious that it will have two galleries - one on the western side and another on the eastern part. A 400- metre track is another facility being provided at the outdoor stadium. It will also house a volley-ball court, basket ball court, and kabaddi court.

The sprawling site of 14 hectares available in the area has come as a gift for the Education Department to fully utilise it for sports activities. The inclusion of skating rink is another facility to suit the needs of the present-day youth. The work was being executed in phases for its expeditious execution. Adequate facility would also be provided for coaches and sportspersons at the outdoor stadium.
