SMART Journal Awards conferred on five academicians

The SMART Journal Awards for 2018 were conferred on five eminent personalities by the Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University P. Manisankar, at a function last week.

Hamid Saremi, Vice-Chancellor of Islamic Azad University, Quchan Branch, Quchan, Iran, received the SMART Journal Distinguished Life Time Achievement Award, by virtue of having published 76 research articles in refereed journals, written 10 books and presented more than 50 research papers in various national and international conferences.

Jebamalai Vinanchiarachi, former Principal Advisor to the Director General of UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organisation), Vienna, was also conferred with a lifetime achievement award for his excellent contribution in the fields of business and economics.

'The Poverty of Economic Thinking' is among the eight books he has authored. Dr. Jebamalai had prepared many policy study reports for UNIDO and FAO (Food and Agriculture Organisation).

Arnab Kumar Maiti, Senior Faculty, MSME Development Institute, Kolkata, was honoured with the SMART Journal Young Management Scientist Award, in recognition of his service in several government organisations and training institutions, and visits abroad for conducting industrial development programme.

J. Kirubakaran, Associate Professor, Maldives Business School, Male, Maldives, received the SMART Journal BDU COM Distinguished Alumni Award for his contributions towards welfare of the Department of Commerce and Financial Studies.

The research papers of N. Shylaja, Research Scholar, Reva ITM, Reva University, Bengaluru; H.N. Shivaprasad, DVHIMSR (D Veerendra Heggade Institute of Management Studies and Research, Dharwad; and A. Vijayakumar, Associate Professor, Erode Arts and Science College, that were published in the SMART Journal in the year 2018 were chosen for the SMART Journal Best Paper Award, M. Selvam, Founder-Publisher and Chief-Editor, SMART Journal of Business Management Studies, said.

An international seminar on 'Financial Markets: Issues and Challenges' spanning two days was conducted to coincide with the award function with the objective of bridging the gap between felt needs and realisable possibilities.

S. Iyyampillai, former Senior Professor of Economics, Bharathidasan University, delivered the valedictory address.

The participants had a discussion on the nearly 200 research papers on vital areas including debt market, equity market, derivatives market, mutual funds, capital market regulations, corporate governance, investors education and grievances, and financial innovations.
