Six fertilizer outlets in Keeranur area in the district have been forbidden from selling fertilizer for not adhering to the Fertilizer Control Order. The action was initiated following special checks conducted by Fertilizer Inspectors in outlets in the district on a direction from the District Collector P. Uma Maheswari.
The checks in Keeranur area were conducted on Wednesday by Assistant Director Agriculture (Quality Control). During the checks, six outlets were found not adhering to the Fertilizer Control Order and were banned from selling fertilizer, an official release said.
The checks was also done to ensure that urea was being sold to farmers in a proper manner by private outlets in the district. The district has so far received 3,168 metric tonnes of urea out of 7,130 metric tonnes for the ongoing Samba cultivation.
Another lot of 1,500 metric tonnes of urea would be received within a week and steps were being taken to sell them through private outlets and cooperative societies. The district administration has cautioned fertilizer outlets in the district not to sell urea at a higher price than fixed by the government. Urea per bag should not be sold beyond ₹266.50, the release further said adding that action as per Fertilizer Control Order would be taken if the rules were flouted.
