Six kg gold seized at Tiruchi airport

About 6 kilos of gold attempted to be smuggled in through the Tiruchi Airport were seized by officials of the Customs Air Intelligence Unit on Friday.

According to sources, the seizures were made in three cases. In the first instance, about 424 grams of gold concealed in the handle of a trolley bag by a passenger, Mohamed Haneefa, who arrived here from Kuala Lumpur was seized.

About 1.5 kg of gold granules, estimated at Rs. 45 lakh, found concealed in a compressor of an air-conditioner brought in by Shahul Hameed from Singapore was seized. Another 4 kg of gold, estimated at Rs. 1.2 crore, was found concealed in an air-conditioner that was abandoned at the conveyor belt in the arrival hall was seized by the officials.
