Having provided funds under the MP Local Area Development Scheme for the establishment of an escalator at Tiruchi railway junction, DMK Rajya Sabha member Tiruchi Siva inspected the pace of the ongoing works on Monday.

Accompanied by the Divisional Railway Manager Atul Kumar Agarwal and senior railway officers, Mr. Siva ascertained the progress made so far in the upcoming escalator project.

Mr. Siva had provided Rs. 1 crore from the MPLAD Scheme for the provision of the escalator facility connecting platforms 2 and 3 to benefit travellers especially the senior citizens.

Civil works connected with the project began recently with the removal of footsteps towards the Chennai-side leading to platforms 2 and 3. However, the footsteps towards the Madurai-side would remain.

Mr. Siva, who held discussions with the Divisional Railway Manager, said work was apace and that the escalator would get operational by October. The MP made a visit to the second class waiting room at the station which was yet to be opened to public.
