The process of identifying a suitable site for the proposed integrated bus stand in the city is underway and an announcement in this regard will be made soon, Mayor A.Jaya said here on Friday.

Replying to the discussion on the Corporation Budget, Ms.Jaya rebutted criticisms from the Opposition that the Budget lacked new initiatives. She also affirmed that follow up action has been initiated on most projects which have already been announced.

The Corporation has forwarded to the government detailed project reports for the construction of a commercial complex at Yanaikulam and establishment of the bus stand at Srirangam and a modern fish market in the city.

Works on the project will commence during the next financial year. Efforts are underway to build pedestrian foot overbridges at a couple of places in the city with private participation.

The proposed Science Park at Thennur Anna Nagar will come up during the year, she said.

The Opposition members have turned a blind eye to many of the new initiatives announced in the Budget such as the proposals on establishing bicycle tracks, laying of paver block pavements around Srirangam, establishment of a bio-methanation plant to generate power from waste and slaughter house, upgradation of maternity centres and improvements of infrastructure at Corporation schools, she said.
