Silver coins seized

Silver coins weighing around 266 grams was seized from a van at Karanguda on the East Coast Road near Peravurani on Monday.

The seizure was effected by an Election Flying Squad which was conducting a vehicle check at Karanguda at around 9 a.m. The team stopped a van belonging to tobacco company at Alangulam in Tirunelveli district and checked it.

During inspection the team found a parcel containing 133 silver coins, each weighing 2 grams, and when inquired the person, Ruban who claimed himself as a `salesman’, was not able to produce valid documents to declare that the coins were being transported for delivery to the customers who had ordered it.

Subsequently, the coins having the image of Goddess Lakshmi on one side and lotus flower on the other side, were seized and lodged at the Sub-Treasury at Peravurani.
