Security stepped up

Law-enforcers have stepped security measures across the Central Zone to ensure peace and order in view of the Central government’s decision to do away with the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir.

Additional deployment of police personnel have been made in areas identified as problematic with the entire coastal belt brought under enhanced vigil. Intelligence machinery have been up geared up and the entire police strength in the Central zone encompassing eight districts having been mobilised completely, said a senior police officer.

Anti-sabotage teams in each district in the zone have been put on alert based on an advisory from the State police headquarters, the officer added. Open line patrolling had been organised and vehicle checks were being organised at various places across the zone as part of the enhanced security arrangements.

Communally sensitive areas have been kept under watch with instructions also having been given to keep a tab against circulation of rumours in the social media that could disturb peace and amity, the officer added. Night rounds across the zone have been strengthened with surveillance being mounted at public places, railway stations and bus stands.

Senior officers in the Tiruchi and Thanjavur range were camping in sensitive areas as a precautionary measure to ensure order, said the officer.
