Sangabishegam was performed to Sri Brahadeeswarar at the Big Temple here on Monday, the first ‘somavaram’ of the Tamil month ‘Karthigai’.

Special pujas were performed to the conches filled with water prior to the ‘Sangabishegam’ and an ‘harathi’ was also held. Hundreds of devotees witnessed the event.

Meanwhile, members of weaving community took out a procession of ‘milk kavadis’ from Thirubhuvanam to Swamimalai via Kumbakonam on Monday.

While 175 persons carried the ‘milk kavadis’ on their shoulders, another 225 persons who were on ‘Karthigai Somavara Viratham’ accompanied them to Swamimalai from Thirubhuvanam.

They ended their ‘Viratham’ at Swamimalai after performing the ‘balabishekam’ to the presiding deity Sri Swaminatha Swamy.
