Round-the-clock security at counting centres in Pudukottai

Round-the-clock security has been provided at counting centres in the district where electronic voting machines (EVMs) brought from the polling booths have been stored following conclusion of the elections to urban local bodies on Saturday.

Surveillance cameras have been installed in strong rooms where the EVMs are stored with armed police personnel standing guard in shifts. The EVMS used for Pudukottai municipality and eight town panchayats have been kept at the counting centre in Government Arts College for Women in Pudukottai town. Those used for Aranthangi municipality are at the counting centre in Government Polytechnic College, Aranthangi. The counting of votes is to take place on February 22.

Basic amenities such as drinking water and toilet facilities besides shamiana have been erected at the counting centres for the benefit of candidates and their agents.

Collector Kavitha Ramu on Sunday inspected the counting centre at Government Arts College for Women here and examined the security measures and other arrangements. Superintendent of Police, Pudukottai, Nisha Parthiban and other officials accompanied the Collector, an official press release said.
