Role of micro irrigation in water conservation emphasised

The efficacy of micro irrigation in conserving water and labour, and increasing yield was emphasised at a training programme on “micro irrigation technologies for vegetables and flower crops” conducted at Periya Anakkaraipatti village by Irrigation Management Training Institute (IMTI), Thuvakudi, recently

The training, organised under the Norwegian-funded ClimaAdapt project, was meant for the farmers of Ponnaniar basin.

The institute is conducting capacity building programmes for the farmers of Ponnaniar Reservoir System in Tiruchi and Kalingarayan Canal Irrigation System in Erode under the ClimaAdapt project.

Through presentations and demonstrations, faculty members of IMTI explained to farmers how they could increase yield and improve the quality of their produce using micro irrigation system.

Agriculture and horticulture officials briefed the farmers about the subsidy available for installing micro irrigation system and the procedure to avail of the subsidy, an IMTI release said.
