Students of Vasavi Vidhyalaya on Wednesday despatched nearly 100 rakhis to army personnel on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

Students of Class 8 and 9 wrote and posted letters, which included a rakhi and a message thanking them for their service on the day of Raksha Bandhan, a festival where a ceremonious thread is tied around the wrists of brothers by sisters to symbolise love.

A note thanking the jawans for ensuring their fellow citizens to lead a peaceful life was enclosed in the envelope along with a rakhi. “We are really proud of you dear brothers and sisters, having sons like you makes Mother India proud too,” a note read.

The letters would reach the jawans by Friday, said R. Ganapathi Swaminathan, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Tiruchi division, as he addressed the students.

“These envelopes are also available for sale at all post offices in the city and those willing can buy and post them to their brothers and sisters,” he said .
