S. Rajendran, an engineer, and N. Selvaraj, an epigraphist, were presented with the Raja Rajan Awards during the 1034th Sathaya Vizha of King Raja Raja Chola held at the Big Temple complex on Wednesday.

The awards were presented to Mr. Rajendran and N. Selvaraj by Collector A. Annadurai in the presence of Durai Thirugnanam, chairman of the Sathaya Vizha Committee, and Babaji Rajah Bhonsle, Hereditary Trustee, Thanjavur Palace Devasthanam.

Mr. Rajendran, who had earlier presented a sound and light show on the architectural marvels of the Big Temple during the function, had carried out extensive research on the temple and was also involved in the conservation of several heritage structures. Mr. Selvaraj is a historian and an epigraphist who has copied many inscriptions, including several Chola period ones.
