May 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - TIRUCHI:

The Railways has introduced the system of issuing photo identity cards for the differently-abled to enable them to book tickets online through e-ticketing as well as across the counter.

Persons requiring the identity cards have the option of sending in required papers by post to the divisional offices in Chennai, Tiruchi, Madurai, Salem, Palakkad, and Thiruvananthapuram.

In addition to divisional offices, the Railways have made arrangements at 36 additional locations to receive the applications at the railway stations between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on every Tuesday and Thursday.

Th locations include Erode, Karur, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Udhagamandalam, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Manamadurai, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Villupuram, Kumbakonam, Thanjavur, Mayiladuthurai,  Nagapattinam, Nagercoil, and Puducherry.

These locations will receive applications from May 1 and continue to do so for two months after which the divisional offices alone would continue to receive the applications, a Southern Railway release here said.

On completion of verification, the cards could be collected from the place of submission in person or through an authorised representative on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

If the concession holder submits the mobile phone number along with the application, he or she would be intimated by an SMS to collect the card.

If not, they may collect the card after three weeks.
