Rail users welcome proposal

The Thanjavur District Rail Users Association has welcomed the proposal to operate a special train to Rameswaram through the main line on a trial basis for three months from August 23.

Southern Railway has announced that a special train would be operated between Hyderabad and Rameswaram for three months to assess the commuter patronage as the main line commuters were demanding a direct service to Hyderabad and Tirupati for quite a long time.

According to TDRUA advisor A. Giri, Southern Railway has decided to operate the special service from Hyderabad on Fridays and from Rameshwaram on Sundays. While the first train of the special service will leave Hyderabad on August 23, the last trial service will leave Hyderabad on October 25. Similarly, in the opposite direction, the first service will leave Rameswaram on August 25 and the last service on October 27.

The new service will be of much use to pilgrims to Tirupati originating from the towns on the main line apart from providing them access to Guntur and Nellore, he added.
