Processed sea lizards seized

A team from the Tiruppunavasal Coastal Security Group in Pudukottai district seized six bags containing 18,000 processed sea lizards at Kottaipattinam coastal village on Monday. The consignment, which was allegedly meant to be smuggled to Sri Lanka by sea, was handed over to the Forest Department for further action.

Acting on secret information that sea lizards were illegally stocked at Rahmath Nagar in Kottaipattinam village to be smuggled to Sri Lanka, the team from the Coastal Security Group led by Sub Inspector Raghupathy went to the spot.

During checks, the team found the processed sea lizards illegally stocked in six gunny bags behind the residence of Haji Ali, 55, of Rahmath Nagar in Kottaipattinam and seized the consignment. The value of the seized consignment weighing 32 kilograms was put at ₹5 lakh. The accused had escaped from the spot, Coastal Security Group sources said.
