Heated argument between a traffic police personnel and an organiser of a residents association fighting for a service road along the Thanjavur road near Tiruverambur lead to fracas on Friday.

S.Subramanian, an organiser of the Federation for Retrieval of Palpannai-Thuvakkudi Service Road, was riding a two-wheeler on the wrong direction of the carriage way towards Amman Nagar when a traffic police constable stopped him for driving on the wrong side, according to sources.

It is said that Subramanian had taken the wrong route to avoid a detour in the absence of a service road which the federation has been fighting for.

A verbal duel is said to have broken out between the traffic police personnel and Mr. Subramanian and in the melee the latter was allegedly slapped by a traffic sub-inspector.

Mr. Subramanian, who resides along the Thanjavur road, fell down on the road and the incident lead to traffic hold-up for sometime, said Mr.Shanmugam, another organiser of the body.

Upon receipt of information, locals assembled on the spot. Mr. Subramanian was taken to Government Hospital for medical examination.
