Police recover 1.75 kg of gold

Tiruchi rural police have recovered 1.75 kg of gold jewellery stolen from a PNB branch at Bikshandarkovil in January.

The recovery comes after the arrest of three persons, P. Suresh, C. Ganesan and Radhakrishnan. They were also involved in the Lalithaa Jewellery heist.

SP, Tiruchi rural, Zia Ul Haque told The Hindu on Thursday that the recovery was made on the basis of the confession of the accused in the PNB case.

Out of 3.75 kg of gold ornaments, 1.75 kg of gold jewellery was recovered mostly from different parts of Madurai district. Their value was about ₹60 lakh.

He said the stolen jewels were sold to pawn brokers and individuals. About 2 kg of the stolen ornaments were yet to be recovered. Special teams were working to recover the remaining property.

The SP said Tiruvarur Murugan, who was the mastermind behind the burglary, was under the custody of Bengaluru police. Steps were being taken to arrest him.
